The Blue Bin Of Happiness

The whole recycling thing started for me on my honeymoon.

My wife and I were married two years ago in September; which is our favorite month to be on Cape Cod.

We are always reluctant to go "off cape" during this time of year. Realizing we needed a proper honeymoon but not wanting to leave the Cape during its best season we did what any other sensible Cape Codder would do; we picked a destination that was as similar to the Cape as possible, but yet far enough from home to be officially "away". So we went to exotic Nova Scotia!

We rented a car and traveled the coast. Cozy harbors, friendly people, cool little fishing shacks. The kind of place where Popeye would feel right at home. Among all the scenery we also noticed that there were recycling bins everywhere and best of all it seemed like people were actually using them. These Nova Scotians really had their act together.

We sat on a bench next to one of the ubiquitous blue bins. The sun was setting, all was calm, and the mood was perfect. I gazed into my wife's eyes and lovingly asked her:" Why can't we have these bins in Chatham?"
