Recycling is fun, easy and a positive habit to get into as part of your daily routine.

We in Chatham are fortunate to have a wonderful Recycling Center that takes a wide variety of items that can be recycled, converted and re-used for additional purposes.

 

ITEMS THAT CAN BE RECYCLED IN CHATHAM, MASSACHUSETTS:

NEWSPAPER and INSERTS
stack neatly in newsprint shed NO twine, paper or plastic bags. junk mail, tissue or carbon paper
MAGAZINES
stack loosely on table (same as above)
CORRUGATED CARDBOARD
(and brown paper bags)
flatten and insert into container slot on recycling dock NO yellowed, waxed or plastic-coated cardboard, twine
BEVERAGE CONTAINERS
(redeemable)
on table at Boy Scout's trailer non-deposit containers, glass bottles
TIN CANS
(non-redeemable beverage/food - tin, aluminum and steel)
rinse clean, place in container NO aluminum trays or foil, other containers
GLASS
(clear, green, blue, brown, black)
rinse clean, remove lids and neck rings place on table NO windows, mirrors, plate glass, dishes, pyrex, light bulbs and ceramics
PLASTICS #1-7
rinse clean, remove lids and neck rings place on table NO unmarked containers, plastic bags, motor oil containers
MIXED PAPER
(catalogs, junk mail, box board, cereal boxes)
AUTOMOTIVE
(motor oils, anti-freeze, oil filters, waste oil, batteries, tires)
*disposal fees for tires
place oil on table provided. stack batteries and oil filters in building NO contaminated oil
SCRAP METAL
(small and large appliances, pots, pans, bikes, light iron, etc)
*disposal fees apply
drain fluids (gas/oil), remove tires, remove doors from appliances NO automobiles
COMPOST PILE
(leaves, pine needles, grass, weeds)
empty bags of contents onto pile NO bags
YARD WASTE
(branches, logs and trimmings)
empty bags with trimmings onto pile, cut branches into 4 foot lengths NO bags
GIFT SHOP
(household items, small appliances, tools, etc - as space allows)

TEXTILE / CLOTHING

(oil-based, latex, thinners and stains)

CATHODE RAY TUBES
(televisions and computer monitors)
