Winning Night at Veterans Field for Team Chatham

Thank you to the Chatham Anglers for recognizing Town employees at last night's game which also celebrated 100 years of baseball in Chatham with the anniversary of the Cape Cod Baseball League! Thank you also to everyone who turned out in support of Team Chatham!

Facilities Foreman Richard Corres represented Town employees and threw out an impressive first pitch from the mound. And the Anglers won the game against Y-D! A winning night for both Chatham teams!

Summer Residents Advisory Committee Survey

If you’re a summer resident and own a home in Chatham in which you reside for part of the year, this survey is for you!

It has been developed by the Summer Residents Advisory Committee (SRAC), which originated in 1996, as the Non-Voting Taxpayers Advisory Committee (NVTAC). SRAC members are appointed to three-year terms by the Select Board to: (1) Give summer residents a voice; (2) Give the Select Board the benefit of information and views; (3) Give fresh outlooks to the Town; and (4) Take a position and make a case for or against Town matters. The Select Board endorsed the survey at its meeting on July 11th.

Proposed Coastal Waters Forecast

NWS Wants to Hear From You

The National Weather Service is testing a proposed version of the Coastal Waters Forecast which includes enhanced wave detail over the ocean zones. The National Weather Service, through this experimental product, will now provide wave height, period, and direction in the Coastal Waters Forecast. Currently, some Weather Forecast Offices only provide significant wave height, while others only provide wind wave and swell, creating inconsistencies. The proposed update will enable all Weather Forecast Offices to provide enhanced wave information.

If you are a commercial mariner or recreational boater, the National Weather Service is asking for your feedback on the proposed Coastal Waters Forecast. Take the survey here.

Voluntary Water Conservation Appreciated

Despite recent rains our region remains in a Level 1- Mild Drought as declared by Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper upon recommendation by the state's Drought Management Taskforce.

At this time there are no water-use restrictions in place but voluntary water conservation is requested and appreciated.

Got Turkeys?

MassWildlife conducts an annual wild turkey count from June 1 to August 31 each year. Reports from the public help biologists determine productivity, compare long-term reproductive success, and estimate fall harvest potential.

Report wild turkeys you see in your neighborhood, when you are out on the bike path, or visiting a park or conservation area. Submit your sightings online and help contribute valuable data to Mass Wildlife biologists.

Senator Markey's Office Holding Virtual Office Hours

The staff of Senator Ed Markey's DC and Massachusetts offices will be available virtually on July 21st from 1-3 p.m. and August 25th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. via Zoom to discuss clean energy and climate funding opportunities as well as hear about priority projects pursued by individuals, communities, schools, small businesses, non-profit organizations, or local and state government. Mondays on Main

Here's hoping the weather is better this coming Monday for Mondays on Main festivities!

The Placeholders, a four piece band of childhood friends out of Harwich, will be playing a variety of covers with a classic rock influence from the 60's through today at the Band Stand in Kate Gould Park from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Free Face painting will be offered at the Main Street entrance to the Park.

Coastal Plain Ponds Walk

Join the Chatham Conservation Foundation on Wednesday, July 19th at 10 a.m. for a guided walk and discussion of coastal plain ponds at Barclay's Pond. Coastal plain ponds support an unusual fauna and flora that is sensitive to pollution, physical disturbance, and excessive groundwater pumping.

The walk will be lead by Bob Zaremba who has a PhD in botany and 40 years of experience including 18 years working with the Nature Conservancy and continued consultancies.

Register for the walk online. The fee is $20. Meeting details and directions provided upon purchase of tickets.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
