Eldredge Garage Ribbon CuttingBrad Schiff, Chair of the Eldredge Garage Property Planning Committee cut the ribbon held by Select Board Vice Chair Dean Nicastro and Sharon Eldredge Kaplowitz to officially open the Eldredge Garage Visitor Center and Parking Lot on Friday, July 19, 2024. In her remarks Town Manager Jill Goldsmith thanked the William (Bill) Eldredge Family and David and Gail Oppenheim for making the Town’s acquisition of the property possible; the members of the Eldredge Garage Planning Committee for their work (over 15 meetings) to make recommendations on the redevelopment of the property; Town staff, led by Director of Community Development Katie Donovan, for turning those recommendations into reality; the Town’s design, engineering, and construction partners; and the anonymous donors who made a generous financial donation to the Town which made the redevelopment possible. Sharon Eldredge Kaplowitz, on behalf of herself and her siblings, expressed her family's thanks to the Town for taking stewardship of the property and honoring its historical use in a way that her father would appreciate. Final landscaping, installation of EV charging stations, and interior decor in the Visitors Center will be completed in the coming weeks. With those efforts as well as maintaining the Open Space Meadow, Town Manager Goldsmith is proud to say that we not only carried out the wishes of Bill Eldredge and family, but also delivered on the recommendations of the Eldredge Garage Property Planning Committee.

Beach Regulations in PlaceThe Town received several complaints regarding the large party which took place on North Beach Island on July 4,, 2024. The Town was made aware that this was a well-organized event, featuring un-permitted entertainment and alcohol consumption, advertised by the organizer on social media. The Chatham Police Department investigated, identified the organizer, and issued a citation for violation of North Beach Island General Rules and Regulations. As a reminder to all beach goers, regulations are in place for Chatham Town beaches and North Beach Island to ensure that our residents and visitors can enjoy a positive day at the beach. Downtown Parking & Circulation Study Public Meeting on July 30thThe Cape Cod Commission and the Town of Chatham invite residents, business owners, and others who frequently visit downtown Chatham to attend a hybrid public meeting on Tuesday, July 30th, at 5:00 PM at the Town Annex, 261 George Ryder Road, to learn more and share their thoughts on plans to improve parking and circulation in downtown Chatham. Downtown Chatham's numerous restaurants, cultural destinations, retail stores, and other local businesses draw visitors year-round. Because of this, parking and circulation in the immediate area can pose several challenges, particularly in the busy summer months. The Cape Cod Commission is working with Town of Chatham staff and the Chatham Parking Solutions Working Group to develop recommendations to improve parking, safety, and multimodal accommodations along Main Street. Draft recommendations include potential parking time restrictions, improved crossings, and increased signage to direct motorists to available parking lots. This is a collaborative effort and public participation is essential. Those who attend the July 30 meeting will hear a presentation about potential improvements and join an interactive discussion to provide feedback on the presented ideas. Virtual Meeting Option: https://cccom.link/ChathamParking For more information, please visit the Commission's website or contact David Nolan, Senior Transportation Planner.

The MainsheetThe name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community. In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
