Veterans HonoredChatham’s Veterans Day ceremony conducted at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month honored all who have served our country in the armed forces. The 80th anniversary of the end of World War II was commemorated under the theme “Eternal Legacy: Honoring the Greatest Generation and Inspiring the Next.” Our guest speaker, Captain Richard J. Schultz, US Coast Guard (Ret.), spoke of his service in the Coast Guard and his leadership of the Coast Guard Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) at Barnstable High School—one of only 14 such programs nationwide. Captain Schultz was joined by 10 cadets enrolled in the four-year maritime science curriculum which focuses on citizenship, leadership, and personal responsibility, preparing students to become disciplined, service-minded leaders. The ceremony also marked a changing of the guard on the Town’s Public Ceremonies Committee with Brian Miner taking the helm from long serving Committee Chair Rob Franz and “officially” bringing Ted Miller on board. Join us in thanking members of our Police & Fire Departments, elected officials, members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and our local Scouts for also participating.

The MainsheetThe name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community. In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
