MRSD Superintendent SelectedAt its meeting on December 22, 2025, the Monomoy Regional School Committee voted to appoint Dr. Robin Millen as the district’s next Superintendent, pending successful contract negotiations. “This has been a thorough, months-long process involving the input of many members of our school community, and I am confident that our due diligence imparts extreme confidence that this is the right choice for our district,” said committee Chair Meredith Henderson. “In Dr. Millen, Monomoy will be fortunate to have a leader who is innovative, caring, and committed to continuing the great work of our district.” Dr. Millen is currently Monomoy’s Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, and was previously the district's Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, as well as Principal of Chatham Elementary School and Assistant Principal of Harwich Elementary School. “I have been blessed to work with someone of Dr. Millen’s caliber, learning from her and growing with her over the past 12 years,” said Superintendent Scott Carpenter. “She has played an integral role in helping me guide Monomoy from its infancy to where we are today. I proudly look forward to working with Dr. Millen to support her successful transition. I could not think of anyone with more nurturing hands, heart, and head to guide the next chapter of our school district.” The committee thanked those engaged in the decision-making process, including the Screening Committee members and all of the students, staff, family members, and community members who participated in the finalist visits last week.

Cultural Council Donations SoughtThe Chatham Cultural Council awarded grants to 32 performers, educators, and organizations in 2025. Some of the grantees are First Night, the Chatham Conservation Foundation, Oktoberfest, the Chatham Fiddle Orchestra, the Eldredge Public Library, and the Chatham Orpheum Theatre. Unfortunately, the Council couldn’t fully fund many of the grantee’s programs and had to turn away others because of limited the funding. Much of the money used to fund these programs comes from generous donations from Chatham residents and businesses. If you’d like to help fund local cultural programs, please send a tax-deductible donation to The Chatham Cultural Council, 549 Main Street, Chatham 02633.

Select Board Action December 23rdThe Select Board, pursuant to MGL Chapter 79, approved the taking of permanent easements on private roads for the installation and maintenance of sewer mains and as necessary, the remedial taking of previous easements, all regarding water and drainage for Sewer Phase 1F-1 with $0 awarded for damages. The roads involved are Lorenzo Buck Way, Joshua’s Way, Rumson Lane, Harold Lane, Stephen Drive, Victoria Drive, Nellie’s Way, Woodpecker Valley Road, Beacon Hill, Songbird Lane, Crosby Way, Aunt Zilpa’s Road Ext., Evergreen Lane, Island View Lane, Jedidiah Way, and Shady Acre Drive. The Select Board approved an amendment to the previously approved temporary closing of Uncle Tony’s LLC dba Knot’s Landing Bar & Grill from February 1st – April 1st to January 1st to April 1st to accommodate earlier contractor availability for renovations. Resident Stephen Buckley updated the Board on the Cape Cod Bridges Replacement Project which he has been closely following. Some Select Board members offered their thoughts on the project and the impacts that may be felt in Chatham. Mr. Buckley said that he will include a link to the Board’s meeting so that their comments will be captured in his input on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). Visit the Project's website to submit public comment on the DEIS. The Select Board discussed the Board of Health’s (BOH) new requirement that commercial solid waste haulers sign an affidavit that the waste they are bringing to the Transfer Station originated within the geographical boundaries of the Town of Chatham in compliance with Section 5.1 (Disposition of Acceptable Solid Waste, Origin) of the BOH Regulations Governing the Solid Waste Facility dated July 3, 2008. Graeme Milley, owner of Milley Trucking, spoke in opposition to the implementation of the affidavit, as a small percentage of the municipal solid waste and single stream recycling his business collects comes from outside the Town. The Board voted to request Town staff implement a conditional hauler licensing process for the upcoming calendar year and requested the BOH consider amending their regulations to allow a limited amount of trash from out of Town and to temporarily pause enforcement of the section of the regulations under discussion. The Select Board acknowledged the Town Manager’s appointment of Deputy Director of Public Works Tom Barr as the Chatham Tree Warden and congratulated him on the achievement of his certification. Town Manager Jill Goldsmith reviewed the monthly report for November 2025. She noted years of service anniversaries, new hires, and the retirement of Geoff Phillips from the Police Department after 17 years of service. The public is encouraged to view the meeting in its entirety through Chatham TVs on-demand archive.

The MainsheetThe name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community. In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
